Gum Disease
With our overall awareness to health concerns and diet…and thanks
to improved community water treatment systems, most people today do NOT
loose their teeth to tooth decay, as they once did. But there is still
a real danger to losing that smile…and it all happens in the gum
tissue. Periodontal (gum) diseases, including gingivitis and periodontitis,
are serious infections that, left untreated, can lead to tooth loss. The
word periodontal literally means "around the tooth." Periodontal
disease is a chronic bacterial infection that affects the gums and bone
supporting the teeth.
